New Delhi: Air India, owned by the Tata Group, has announced an additional order for 100 Airbus aircraft

As part of Air India ambitious expansion strategy. This includes 10 A350 widebody aircraft and 90 A320neo-family narrowbody aircraft, further strengthening its growing fleet.

The latest order comes on top of the 470 Airbus and Boeing jets the airline ordered last year in 2023. This previous order included 40 A350s, 210 A320neo-family Aircrafts, 190 Boeing 737 Max, 20 Boeing 787s, and 10 Boeing 777Xs.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Air India, highlighted the airline’s growth vision: “With India’s passenger growth outpacing the rest of the world, improving infrastructure, and a young population eager to explore the world, we see a strong reason to expand our fleet beyond the previous 470 aircraft order. These additional 100 Airbus aircraft will help position Air India as a world-class airline connecting India globally.”

The new aircraft will be powered by CFM International Leap-1A engines and supported by Airbus’ Flight Hour Services-Component (FHS-C) for maintenance and operational efficiency. This partnership is expected to boost Air India’s fleet reliability and performance.

Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, expressed excitement about the partnership: “We are committed to supporting Air India’s transformation under Tata’s leadership and helping it achieve its global ambitions.”

Air India’s A350 operations began in January 2024, marking the aircraft’s debut in India. Known for its fuel efficiency and advanced design, the A350 offers reduced operating costs, lower emissions, and quieter flights.

With this expanded fleet, Air India aims to enhance its network and provide passengers with better connectivity, comfort, and a superior flying experience.
